Below is a very rare Waffen-SS M43 Panzer Fieldcap.
The fieldcap for NCO's and enlisted is made of black wool/rayon blend construction with
fold down back and side panels with scalloped front edge and foward sides. It also has two small
silver washed pebbled buttons.
The front shows a beautiful crown formation above the the woven skull.
The back and side panels were designed to be folded down to
protect the wearer's ears and neck and the scalloped front section could be secured with the buttons
closed under the wearer's chin.
The buttons retain the full color silver wash and appear to have the original stiching.
The front center of the cap has a machine woven 2nd pattern SS "totenkopf" (Death Head) in silver-grey rayon threads
on a cut out, woven, black rayon base. The skull apears to be machine sewn to front of cap but not through lining.
On the left side is a matching machine silver-grey woven 2nd pattern SS style eagle, with out-stretched wings, clutching
a wreathed, canted, swastika in it's talons, which is machine stitched to the cap in a typical zig-zag fashion.
The interior of the cap is fully lined in grey-cotton rayon blend material with an HBT (Herring Bone Twill). The lining
is well marked with a black size inkstamp, "58" and only shows minor soiling. The overall cap shows only minor use
with some napwear to edges but has no damage, is in excellent condition.
